Huntington Beach legend Mike Morgan passes away
Mike Morgan, 44, longtime Huntington Beach local, contest commentator, and HSS employee, died of natural causes over the weekend at his home.

Mike was a former 1980 NSSA National Team member. Morgan was known for his solid surfing at the hyper-competitive HB Pier on his trademark green and yellow shortboard, but was most widely known for his easy-going contest announcing. He started 20 years ago with NSSA contests and worked his way up to the US Open, Boost Mobile Pro, Surfers' Hall of Fame and many of the grom contests that come through grom-crazy SoCal.

"He carried the tradition of Huntington Beach in his pocket wherever he went," remarked longtime friend and surf buddy Scott Waring. "When people thought of Huntington surfing, it was Rockin' Fig, Carl Hayward and Mike. He will be greatly missed by many people."

Mike will be remembered as being one of the greatest surf commentators in our sport. He competed, traveled the world, and made a living doing what he loved. He gave so much back to the sport of surfing, and was the biggest grom, dawn patrolling everyday for the past 20 years. Thanks for being my friend and loving my family so much. Love - Scott Waring

There will be a memorial paddle out for Mike on the Southside of the Huntington Pier on Saturday, June 11th at 11:30am for those that wish to attend and pay their respects.
